Muzaffar Alam’s new book on Mughals and Sufism lays new groundwork in Indian History
Noted Academic and author, Muzaffar Alam’s new book The Mughals and the Sufis chronicles the relations and dynamics between the Mughals and the Sufis. Having authored books such as The Languages of Political Islam in India c 1200-1800, The Crisis of Empire in Mughal North India and Writing the Mughal World: Studies in Culture and Politics (With Sanjay Subrahmanyam), Alam is uniquely positioned to attempt to understand and contribute to his particular essence of Indian history.
Muzaffar Alam trained in history at the Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi), Aligarh Muslim University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi), where he obtained his doctorate in history in 1977. He has taught on the history of the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire, and has also worked closely with students on advanced Urdu and Persian literary and historical texts.
